| Target
species captured with this type of net are demersal
fishes (hake, blue whiting and whiting). By design,
the nets are made from four panels with three
bridles, permitting vertical heights of up to
50 metres. A net can be as much as 250 metres
long. The mesh size in the forepart of the wings
can reach a maximum of 3.2 metres in order to
reduce drift. Under those circumstances, the towing
speed is usually slow (2 to 2.5 knots), which
contributes to reducing gas-oil consumption considerably. |
